ABOUT ANJUMAN - E - BURHANI MOMBASA
Mumineen first came to Kenya towards the end of the 19th century for trade and business. The community members congregated to form local Jamaats which were established with guidance of the Dai-al-Mutlaq. There are about 10,000 mumineen settled in all parts of Kenya. Many Mumineen are engaged in business and industry.
The Masjid which stands at the old port (‘Mohti Masjid’) was built in around 1850’s and it’s design was based on ancient architecture.
In 1978 a plan for a new Masjid was initiated after the arrival of Syedna Taher Saifuddin(RA).
In 1980 a foundation stone was laid by Aqa Moula (TUS). By December 1984 the Iftetah of Burhani masjid took place.
The same Burhani Masjid was the site for two Asharas.By the start of the new millennium 2000, plans were underway to remodel Burhani Masjid’s exterior on ‘Asar’ of Imam Mehdi Bilah’s(AS) Masjid of Tunisia.
By 2004 Burhani Masjid was ready for iftetah.
By 2007 plans for shaheed and reconstruction of the qibla in pure white marble was proposed.
In 2008 work on the new qibla renovation begun and is ready by the end of the year.
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Aqa’s (TUS) spiritual aura and tireless travels to Mombasa in a span of 40 years has left a momentous mark; enriching our culture. The following years show the events of Moula’s visits:-
1968: Mombasa was blessed with Moula’s 1st visit at Taheri Manzil.
1980: Foundation stone laid for Burhani Masjid. Moula (TUS) Addressed a Muslim gathering at Makadara grounds.
1982: A six hour visit when Moula led Magrib Isha prayers on the open ground where Burhani Masjid now stands.
1984: On Tuesday 4th December 1984, Huzurala (TUS) performed the Iftitah of Burhani Masjid and the Chehlum of Imam Hussein(A.S) in Mombasa.
Al-Munasabatain Karimatain-Imam Hussein’s 400th birth anniversary and Syedna Taher Saifuddin’s (RA) 100th anniversary.
1989: Mombasa was visited briefly by Aqa Moula.(Stop-over)
1990: After the Dar-es- salam Ashara(1411H) Moula visited Mombasa once again where He saw and chose a development plan for the Al-Mahalatus Saifiyah (Housing scheme, Bombolulu).
1993:(1414H) Over 15,000 Mumineen congregated for Zikre-Hussein (AS). 43 days of barakat, Huzarala acknowledged the khidmat and nashaat of Mumineen showering us with dua and blessings.
1995: (1416H) History repeated itself. Over 20,000 mumineen converged in Mombasa to commemorate martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS). Madaraka Day (1stJune) fell within Ashara time. Moula (TUS) prayed for continued peace and rains.
2002: Moula performed Iftitah of Saifee Masjid and performed waaz.
2003: Brief stop over at Moi International Airport en route from Madagascar.
2004: A ten day stay when the ‘key of Mombasa’ was bestowed to Moula (TUS). Shabe-baraat namaz was conducted.
2006: (1427H) 4-8th September Iftetah of Qasr Mubarak ( Amatullah Manzil), Mawaid hall, remodeled Burhani Masjid , Jamaat offices and renovated MSB Institute. 11 glorious days of Barakaat.
2008: On 5th December a delegation including Janaab Amil Saheb Kausarali Bhaisaheb and Kenya’s Foreign Minister did Araz for Ashara 1430 to be held in Mombasa.
On 18th December, Huzurala T.U.S did Fasal Mubarak that Ashara Mubaraka 1430H will be held in Mombasa, Kenya.
On 22nd December, Aqa Moula (T.U.S) arrived in Mombasa from Mumbai at 3.00 P.M. Huzurala (T.U.S) was recieved as a a state guest by Hon. Moses Wetangula, The minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon, Amason Kingi, The Minister of East African Communtiy, Hon. Hassan Joho, Deputy Mayor of Mombasa and Mr. Gideon Mungaro
On 29th December, His Excellency, the President of Kenya Mwai Kibaki met Aqa Maula (T.U.S) at 10.30 a.m at the waaz majlis at Burhani masjid.
On 30th December, the local daily newspapers carried the news of Aqa Maula's (T.U.S) Visit to Mombasa.
2009: On 23rd January, Aqa Maula (T.U.S) delivers waaz mubarak on Urs Mubarak of Syedi Fakhruddin Shaheed AQ.
On 26th January, Aqa Maula (T.U.S) departs from Mombasa to Zambia for Tafreeh Mubarak.
On 28th January, Aqa Maula (T.U.S) arrives in Mombasa after Tafreeh Mubarak in Zambia.
On 4th February, Aqa Maula (T.U.S) gives sharaf of hosting Chelum 1430H to mumineen of Dar-es Salaam.
On 7th February, Aqa Maula (T.U.S) departs from Mombasa.
